Exercise is on the Rise. And with it comes Injury.

The health benefits of physical exercise are plentiful. In recent years, people of all ages have become increasingly aware of this fact.
But some people, particularly those who overdo or who don’t properly train or warm up — these benefits can come at a price: sports injuries.
Fortunately, most sports injuries can be treated effectively. And most people can return to a satisfying level of physical activity after an injury.
Even better, many injuries can be prevented if people take the proper precautions...
(More than) Probable Cause

Some sports injuries result from accidents; others are typically due to:
  • Poor training practices
  • Improper equipment
  • Lack of conditioning
  • Insufficient warm-up and stretching
The High Cost of Low Preparation

While virtually any part of your body can be injured during exercise, the term "Sports Injury" is typically reserved for injuries that involve the musculoskeletal system, which includes the muscles, bones, and associated tissues like cartilage. Traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries are rare during sports activity.

The most common types of sports injury are:
  • Muscle sprains and strains
  • Tearing of the ligaments that hold joints together
  • Tearing of the tendons that support joints and allow them to move
  • Dislocated joints
  • Fracture (stress, acute, and/or bone, including vertebrae)
Your Sports Injury Prevention Plan

To keep yourself injury free (and out of my office), always remember to warm-up before exercise. Make sure you stretch sufficiently. And most of all, don't overdo it.
